Consumers Learn How to Navigate the Healthcare System

Date: 09/11/20

Many people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. They’re shopping for a health plan on a limited budget. So, knowing where to shop and what complex terms mean is critical. This is a major reason The Healthcare Consumer Rights Foundation launched the Fight Back podcast.

Fight Back is hosted by former California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. The podcast digs into a range of topics, including how to:

  • Access mental health services
  • Read complex invoices and other documents
  • Shop & sign-up for an affordable health plan

In July, Poizner welcomed Jenn Moore, Chief Commercial Officer for Health Net, to the show. The episode is titled, "When You Lose Your Health Insurance." They talked about the anxiety some feel when losing their insurance, explored affordable options for the uninsured and explained key health care terms. Karen Johnson, Medicare Officer for Health Net, joined the podcast in August. The episode served as Medicare 101 class for listeners. Experts say those over 65 will represent 17% of the population by 2050. Enrolling in Medicare can be complex. Johnson was happy to break it all down. Hear the full Karen Johnson episode.

For the average consumer, the healthcare system can be tough. That's why Health Net is proud to lend our knowledge and voices to the chat.
