Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)
Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) – ERA files give providers details regarding multiple claims. ERA improves providers' business office workflow by allowing the adjudicated claim information to automatically post to accounts receivable systems. Health Net will send an ERA to any provider who registers with Health Net and with a clearinghouse. ERA is available in all Health Net service areas
Providers can sign up to receive ERAs for each virtual payment option listed.

Who is Zelis and what services do they offer?
Zelis is modernizing the healthcare financial experience for all. It facilitates payments on behalf of 550+ payers to more than 850K providers. ZAPP Edge is Zelis’ opt-in provider payments network that includes providers from medical practices to leading health systems across the United States. Providers who join ZAPP Edge receive streamlined and consolidated payments and data from a growing network of 550+ payers, and meaningful insights that back their payments.
Will Zelis be replacing any of the other Health Net payment vendors such as Conduent, NTT, Centene Mgt. Co.)?
No, Zelis will not be replacing those vendor responsibilities.
What is a Virtual Credit Card?
VCC payments work like any other credit card payment. Providers follow the same process as taking a credit card payment from a patient. Here’s how it works:
- A printed EOP includes a 16-digit card number.
- The provider enters the card number and the full amount of the payment into the credit/debit point-of-sale terminal before the expiration date.
- Funds are received in the same timeframe as other credit card payments.
- VCC payments as they are processed under the merchant agreement with the provider's existing banking partner.
- Note the merchant/banking partner charges fees for the payment transaction. These fees are in lieu of the check clearing fees being paid.
How does the VCC payment program work?
Every time a check run occurs from a participating plan, a unique single use credit card number will be issued to providers enrolled in VCC. The provider selects the delivery method of the VCC which can include fax, mail, or downloaded from the Zelis Provider Payments Portal. The provider then enters the card number into their point-of-sale terminal to process the payment and deposit funds into their bank account. These numbers are valid for one-time use and are not stored at Centene for historical reference.
Will normal credit card transaction fees apply?
Yes. Standard credit card processing fees apply to VCC payments. This transaction is an agreement between the providers and their bank or credit card processer. Centene does not have any involvement with transactions or processing fees.
Will providers use the same credit card each time they are paid?
No. Providers are issued a new card number each time claims are paid out. VCCs are a one-time use payment method to help prevent fraud.
Do VCC payments expire?
Yes, 45 calendar days from the date the card is issued. If a provider does not process the payment within 45 calendar days, the payment will drop to a paper check. Paper checks will be issued the same day the card expires. Date of check delivery will depend on USPS delivery schedule.
Can I opt out of Virtual Credit Card (VCC)?
Yes, enrolled providers can opt-out or update their payment preferences with Zelis. Providers have a one-time opt-out option allowing them to opt-out of a particular payment but remain on the VCC program. Contact Zelis Provider Services via 877-828-8770 or ClientService@zelispayments.com for questions or to change payment method.
How does ZAPP Edge work?
Providers can contract with Zelis and pay a nominal fee to receive direct deposits on behalf of all Zelis payer partners. This allows providers to receive all payments, 835s, payment and denials insights, and customer service through a single, seamless connection with Zelis, across more than 550 Zelis payers. The fee is agreed upon between Zelis and the provider.
What are the benefits of accessing the Zelis Provider Payments Portal as a ZAPP Edge customer?
- Investigate payments history by claim
- Export data in various formats (835, CSV, XLS, or PDF)
- Enable notifications via email or SMS when payments are delivered and files are ready to download
- See key revenue and claims insights visualized in intuitive dashboards
- Access one point of contact for support on payment delivery and remittance questions across all payers in the Zelis network
