In the Community
Health Net's vision for its Medicare members is not just about treating illness. We continually look for ways to support healthy lifestyles and wellness. One of our most successful community programs began in the fall of 2007 -- the Health Net Cup, a virtual bowling tournament for seniors using the Nintendo WiiTM game system. Health Net has donated more than 100 of these game systems to senior centers across the country.
Featured on CNN, Fox and other national and local broadcast news shows, the tournaments rekindle a passion for a sport that seniors loved in their youth, but as they have grown older were no longer physically able to manage. The competitive element that emerges at the tournaments and practice sessions fosters team spirit and a lot of socializing, which is positive from a mental health standpoint. The success of the Health Net Cup virtual bowling tournaments has been a positive influence not only for participants but also their friends and family who enjoy the spectacle of competition. For some seniors, it now means they have something in common with their grandchildren!
