California ACEs
Course Description - Module 1
This is a beginners introduction to the Adverse Childhood Experiences studies. It reviews the history of the ACEs study and how ACEs effect life long health. It also reviews how to screen for ACEs and get reimbursed for using the California approved screening tools.
Course Objectives - Module 1
- Identify the prevalence of ACEs
- State 2 ways ACEs disrupt a person's wellbeing throughout the life span
- State 2 later in life negative outcomes associated with ACEs
- Identify 4 components of California's ACEs Initiative
- Review 2 screening tools used to screen for ACEs
Course Description - Module 2
This training focuses on moderate to advanced knowledge of ACEs. It reviews how ACEs disrupt neurodevelopment and the importance of screening for ACEs and trauma as part of best clinical implementations. It describes how providers can address ACEs with their clients and how to promote resiliency among the populations they serve.
Course Objectives - Module 2
- Describe ACEs and their impact on health
- Name 2 reasons why screening for ACEs and trauma is important
- Explain how to discuss ACEs with clients and develop a trauma informed care clinical response
- Demonstrate how to make referrals and promote resiliency
Continuing Education (CE) Information
To be eligible for CE credit (and/or a completion certificate), the participant must complete a pre-test and a post-test and attend the entire session.* Pre-tests are only available at the beginning of the training. Motivational Interviewing
Course Description
The purpose of the training is an introduction to the basics of Motivational Interviewing (MI). Attendees will be exposed to and begin to learn key concepts and skills. This training is considered a Level 1 MI training. There are 2 parts to this training.
Course Objectives - Part 1
- Describe 2 main points of the Motivational Interviewing definition
- Name and briefly describe the 4 elements of the MI Spirit
- Give 2 important facts about ambivalence
- Identify the core skills that are represented by OARS
- Describe the Elicit Provide Elicit (E-P-E) approach

- List, in order, the 4 processes of MI
- Name at least 3 benefits of engagement
- Describe at least one purpose of focusing

Social Determinants Of Health

Course Description
Attendees will gain clinical and practical knowledge on social determinants of health, the impact these determinants have on health disparities and inequity and strategies to address social determinants of health, health disparities, and inequity is the lives of those they serve.
Course Objectives
- Define social determinants of health and list 3 examples
- Complete at least one activity to gain insight about the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH), health disparities, and inequity
- List at least two possible health disparities and discuss how SDOH may lead to health disparities
- Identify at least one component of health equity
- Gain at least one strategy or resource to address SDOH in an attempt to reduce health disparities

TIC: Trauma Across the Lifespan

Course Description
This training provides a definition of trauma, assist providers in recognizing trauma, realizing it's impact, integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices, and actively seeking to resist the risk of re-traumatization. It advances and enhances the education of the audience by covering the neurobiology of trauma, reviewing diagnostic criteria of trauma related mental health disorder and introducing the most recent evidenced based practices.
Course Objectives
- Define trauma
- Give two examples of trauma
- Analyze case study to identify the effects of trauma on an individual
- Compare trauma responses for the various stages of life

Cultural Humility

Course Description
This training is designed to create an understanding of the practical concepts of Cultural Humility and how it relates to Cultural Competence as the foundation. Specific considerations to the role biases have on our decision making and client interaction. The negative consequences of institutional racism, microaggressions and how these impact healthcare are discussed. Strategies on how to promote cultural inclusivity with members is also discussed.
Course Objectives
- Define the 3 practical concepts of cultural humility
- Distinguish between different types of bias and state how they impact decision making
- Define institutional racism and how it leads to health disparities
